The Port of St. Maarten last week received a special visit. The longest yacht in the world, Eclipse, made a stopover in Pointe Blanche on Christmas Eve.
This behemoth 170 meters long belongs to a Russian billionaire. It was this year’s first Caribbean cruise and chose to make a short stop for a few hours to St. Maarten on the eve of Christmas.
The Eclipse is the largest private yacht in the world
it has an anti-missile system, two airstrips helicopter, a luxury spa, a nightclub, a large pool and a submarine. The boat is also equipped with an anti-paparazzi system with lasers and sensors that detect the presence of a device and sends a light signal to the photographer!
The boat can accommodate 62 guests and has 50 crew members.
The Eclipse is a new boat; it was delivered in June 2009 and has been tested in Denmark before being returned to its owner on 9 December 2010. The initial cost of this unique boat was estimated at million, but information indicate that the total price could reach .2 billion.
The owner of the yacht, Roman Abramovich, is, according to Forbes magazine, the 11th fortune in the world. He owns several yachts and is also the owner of Chelsea football club.
